The Beat is one of four A Cappella groups at the University of California, San Diego. This ensemble of male and female vocalists, masterBEATers and hot BEATches as we call ourselves, was founded only four years ago by Ethan Goodrich, Ben Pezzner and Pei Kuo. We concluded our first year by co-headlining with UCSD’s all-female group, The DOTS, and have been unstoppable ever since!
The following year we added 8 new members and appeared in numerous shows including our own Fall concert and the Annual Ballroom Show hosted by The Tritones. We started a new tradition that spring by producing our first themed concert entitled “Beauty and the Beat!” We also competed in the ICCA (International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella) quarterfinals in Santa Barbara. We continued growing last year adding 7 new members and gaining a huge fan base at UCSD. A record number attended out Spring Concert themed “Pacific Beat.” We also released our first CD Danish Pancakes, named after one of our favorite international beaters!
